Murano, Burano and Torcello are small pearls set in the lagoon. Whereas Murano is known for its prestigious glass handmade by local artisans, Burano is the most colourful island, easily recognizable by boats even on hazy days. But it is also the island of lace, a tradition that has its roots in an ancient legend, starting a trend that spread throughout Europe during the sixteenth century. Meanwhile, Torcello attracts visitors to the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and the Throne of Attila.
